The data centre industrys drive for energy efficiency has left the customer buying space with a cost conundrum - the cheapest colocation deals may NOT be the most cost effective over the long term.
Our Colofinder consultant Steve Hone explains, the cheapest deal on paper today may be the most expensive in the future, this is all due to how efficient the facility manages is power consumption. Power is the key cost element and there is no doubt that energy costs will rise, coupled to that, many service providers will be forced to pass on CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) costs as they come into effect from April 2010. Therefore buyers should check PUE (Power Utilisation Effectiveness) carefully before they choose a provider as they may be forced to move again in just a few years, nullifying any costs savings they had expected in the first place. Alternatively, they should contact us here at Colofinder for free advice on the subject.
